Green Behind the Wall
In the bathroom of my childhood home, there was a small chip in the wall adjacent to the shower tub.
Over time, this chip grew larger with water exposure and the many fingernail scratches that curiously captured my attention. What exactly was hidden behind this wall of white paint? Eventually, it gave way to reveal the brilliant green limestone beneath. While an annoying blemish to my parents, and probably a point deduction when we later sold the home, it became a trademark—a birthmark to the bathroom my younger sister and I shared for nearly a decade.
For my first series in postgrad life, I chose to explore what lies beneath Nashville's ever-changing surface, much like that childhood discovery of green limestone beneath white paint. Blending nostalgic elements of childhood with the now matured aesthetics and lenses of young adulthood. To reflect on who I am today, hope to be tomorrow, and cherish that I will always be the same boy who peered behind the wall.
